Kaia, a medical volunteer from Antelope Park, is spending time assisting at Mkoba Polyclinic during her stay. Here she talks about her first day at the Clinic:
‘As a nursing student from Norway, it was a different experience to see how a clinic in Gweru works. It was good to see that people can come to the clinic to get help with their illness and disease and also that pregnant women can come here to have a safer birth than in their own homes. On my first day at the Clinic, I took the temperature and weight of some patients and also weighed two small babies. I saw two newborn babies who were in good health, which was wonderful. I really hope that I can give the patients a smile on their faces and maybe a little bit of hope while I’m here.’
