ALERT’s education programmes include assisting local schools to increase their capacity to meet the needs of the communities that they serve. In Victoria Falls, this currently includes a building project for a pre-school classroom at Monde Primary School.
Monde Primary is a community school in the rural village of Monde, located about 20 kilometres outside of the town of Victoria Falls. The school educates over 300 pupils and, due to an increase in the student population and a lack of classroom space, the Early Childhood Development class has been forced to conduct lessons outside under a tree in the school’s yard.
Seeing a need for added classroom space, and thanks to a generous donation to ALERT, we have been able to undertake the completion of a classroom dedicated to Early Childhood Development. This classroom will ensure the Pre-school class has adequate shelter and a safe learning environment.
The building includes one large classroom and two adjacent rooms that will act as storage space and an office for the class teacher. This past week, the build reached a landmark achievement when the roof of the classroom was completed. Next, the walls will be plastered and painted, including educational artwork that will enhance lessons. Volunteers from our partner organization, African Impact, even got involved alongside our local builder, helping with mixing cement and plastering.
We look forward to completing the build in the coming weeks.
