A tree of hope
May 30 2014

Last Saturday morning, Lion Encounter volunteers were up early and keen to get going to Natebe Primary School for a session of Kids Club.  The lesson had been planned by volunteers, Shelby and Jay, and was on the topic of bullying.

The volunteers began the lesson with an explanation on what bullying is, before looking at what the children should do if they become a victim of bullying, or see someone else in that position.  All of the students agreed that they had each witnessed bullying before, so were genuinely interested in the subject matter.  As a practical activity, the children were then supported in making an Anti-Bullying Tree for their classroom.  On each leaf, they wrote pieces of advice on what to do if you are being bullied, or see it happening to someone else.  The children also created positive messages and drew pictures on heart-shaped paper to add to the tree.

Throughout this session, Lion Encounter staff member Angela translated into the local language for students who have recently joined the Kids Club to make sure that they were able to take an active part in the class.

Another great day at Natebe!
