Community news from Victoria Falls
July 25 2013

Children from the Victoria Falls Orphanage have been getting a lesson in how to keep themselves healthy recently.  A lot of them had been falling ill, so it was a good opportunity for community volunteers to teach all about the importance of good hygiene.  Following the lesson, the children enjoyed themselves playing games and dancing with the volunteers.

Victoria Falls community volunteers always enjoy a visit to the local old people’s home where they like to spend time listening the stories of the resident’s lives.  Through hardships and happy times, the volunteers are enthralled by hearing all about their experiences and by the smiles on the resident’s faces as they look back on their lives.

One thoughtful volunteer recently donated scarfs, gloves and socks to the home to help make the winter season more bearable; a gesture which was very much appreciated.

Volunteers are also continuing to help out in the home’s garden, where the produce is looking very healthy.  Selling vegetables from the garden is a welcome source of income for the home, as the revenue it generates helps towards the day-to-day running expenses.
