Great news from Twabuka Reading Club
March 10 2014

There is great news from Twabuka Reading Club in Livingstone.  Lion Encounter has now received assessment materials from Coventry University and literacy improvement resources from Axis Education Limited.  This comes as a big boost to our work, as these materials have been donated to allow us to measure improvements in the children’s reading and comprehension levels.  Along with our committed community volunteers, we are excited to witness first-hand the positive impact that the Reading Club is having on its members.

Mirjam from Germany and Gabrielle from England have helped Lion Encounter staff to carry out assessments.  Following training on how to complete the evaluations, the two volunteers spent time one-to-one with each child to assess how many words could be read from a standardised test.  Over the coming weeks, progress will continue to be monitored as the new literacy improvement materials are incorporated into lessons allowing an even greater standard of learning to take place.
