Infrastructure improvements make Chinotimba Pre-School safer for students
September 2 2016

Chinotimba Pre-School, located in a community just outside of the Victoria Falls town in Zimbabwe, is one of the oldest buildings in the area, and is in dire need of refurbishments.  After the felling of a dangerous tree on the property last year, structural improvements to the back of the school were needed.  Fortunately, ALERT has been supplied with a grant via the Tracy Family Foundation, and has begun the first stages of the refurbishment by fixing some of the walls and roofing.

Over the course of the month, a local builder re-bricked patches of two of the school’s exterior walls, and replaced numerous roofing sheets.  The entire section of the school was given a fresh coat of paint and looks like new again!

These renovations now make the school’s third classroom safer for the students.  In the coming weeks, the school will also see refurbishments completed to the exterior and interior walls of the school through a new coat of paint, and there are ongoing plans to restore the school’s windows.

We look forward to continuing to assist Chinotimba Pre-School with infrastructure developments and improvements that will make learning for the school’s pupils easier and safer.

About Our School Development Projects

Our aim is to increase the capacity of the schools with which we work to offer higher learning possibilities for their pupils.  All the schools surrounding our project sites are severely resource limited with classes that are over-crowded and lacking educational materials.  Our projects therefore focus on: school building and refurbishment to create improved learning environments; resource provision of educational materials needed to enhance lessons, and teacher assistance to help teachers plan and run lessons more effectively.  All programmes are operated in agreement with the school in question, and with approval from relevant educational boards.
