Language skills for life
April 30 2014

Improving the student’s language skills is an important part of the teaching at the Twabuka Reading Club in Livingstone.  To make the learning as fun as possible, these skills are taught using a variety of practical methods.  During the last session, the children were asked to act out instructions from a book they were reading; which proved enjoyable to students and volunteers alike.  The instructions included the following: write down your name, run around the classroom, shake your friend’s hand, pick up the books, start singing, clap your hands, and a particular favourite; start dancing!  This exercise was also informative to those teaching, as it allowed assessment of the student’s comprehension of the written text.  It was good to see that they are all making positive progress in both reading and understanding.
