Lindsay Penkala is one of four interns currently working at Lion Encounter in Livingstone. Lindsay has been with the project for a month now and has spent her time assisting at the local Twabuka Primary School, where she teaches English and Mathematics to the Grade 6 students. At the moment they are learning about ratio and proportion, reading a series of short stories, and learning the rules of grammar.
Lindsay is enjoying her time at Twabuka and is finding it rewarding to see the children making improvements in their abilities; not only in the classroom, but through playing sports and participating in clubs. This is what Lindsay has to say about her time so far:
‘The children have responded very well to my teaching and I feel as if they are learning a lot and are appreciating my presence at Twabuka. I have loved getting to know each student and teacher at the school, and I have not only taught all of them a fair amount, but I have learned a lot from them as well. I can’t wait to keep teaching and hanging out with the students and staff at this school in the weeks to come!’
