It has been a busy time at the Dako Garden project in Victoria Falls, as volunteers have been helping project members to clear the beds ready for replanting. The maize season is now coming to an end and the gardeners are looking forward to a new season full of fresh vegetables. As well as feeding themselves and their families, they are hoping for a bumper crop that will enable them to sell excess produce to the local community and nearby businesses to help generate an income from their hard work. The project members were all smiles to see the garden tidied up and ready for new crops.
Lion Encounter community volunteers had a heart-warming visit to the rural areas of Jambezi recently. First they stopped off at the Chief’s house to say hello, before heading on to Chikamba Primary School. They arrived to a very warm welcome from the villagers, who were singing and dancing to greet them. The children were excited to see their visitors and performed plays and poems to welcome them to their school.
Despite operating under difficult conditions, the School is still managing to strive to educate the children to the highest standards possible. To support its efforts, stationary and books donated by volunteers were presented to the teachers to assist the children’s learning. Other donations were also given to members of the community. It is encouraging to see the joy for learning in the children’s faces and the fact that they are making the effort to progress with their education under such conditions; sitting on stones to learn.
