As the saying goes, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. That is especially true for the children of Twabuka Primary School Reading Club in Livingstone.
When they first joined the club, the students struggled to read and found it very difficult to talk about the books they were studying. Recently one of the school teachers told Lion Encounter staff that now most of the pupils who attend the sessions have improved their reading skills and are doing better in their school classes in general. They can now read with confidence and understand easily when teachers are explaining something them.
The children are always enthusiastic during these lessons and often choose to take books home to read in their own time. It is encouraging to know that their hard work is beginning to pay off and that the time devoted to the Club by our community volunteers is helping to make a real difference to these children.
