Last Saturday, staff and interns from Lion Encounter in Victoria Falls proved their commitment to raising funds for ALERT by ‘Losing their Manes for Lions’.
The team put themselves at the mercy of eager volunteers, who made a donation in exchange for the opportunity to shave, wax, and dye them; all in the name of fundraising. A great time was had by all, although it was a more painful experience for some than others. Volunteer Coordinator Anup Mistry let out a roar that Milo himself would be proud of as his chest was waxed. ALERT intern Aaron Self didn’t fare much better. Having his legs waxed did make him scream like ‘a little girl’ - just as he had predicted it would.
The mound of hair lying at his feet after Business Manager Dan Matthews had his head shaved showed that the cultivation-under-a-cap method is very effective. And as if that wasn’t sacrifice enough, Dan also agreed to lose his beloved beard. Meanwhile, Managing Director Nathan Webb gamely shaved his head too.
Saran Canon, another ALERT intern, volunteered to have the ends of her hair dyed red. It’s the first time she’d had it dyed, so it was a big step. It looks great though, so maybe it won’t be the last! By then, Aaron had recovered from his waxing ordeal and couldn’t resist having a go too.
A HUGE thank you from us all at ALERT to everyone who took part in 'Lose your Mane for Lions' and also those who were kind enough to donate to our charity.
