Victoria Falls Team Laces Up for Half Marathon Fundraiser
July 12 2016

Last weekend, a team of ALERT and Lion Encounter staff, accompanied by a number of volunteers from our partners at African Impact signed up to participate in the Victoria Falls Half Marathon.  Signing up to run the 21.1km race, which weaved its way through the Victoria Falls Town and neighbouring Park, the group pledged to fundraise US$ 700 for their efforts.

In total, 11 members of the team completed the run, while six others volunteered at the event handing out water and t-shirts, or helping manage the finish line of the race.

“Running the marathon with ALERT staff and the volunteers was a fun experience and a great way to raise awareness of the need to support Africa’s lions,” said intern Haley Duplin, from Canada.

In the lead-up to the race, as well as afterwards, the group was able to fundraise US$ 714.56 from 16 sponsors through their online JustGiving Page.

“I was proud to be a part of this fundraiser, as my family had donated generously to a cause that’s close to my heart,” said coordinator Anup Mistry, whose family raised over US$ 300.

We want to say a big thank you to all those who supported the run, and for those who laced up for ALERT and spent the morning giving their all during the run!
