A brighter future for Charity
March 14 2013

Towards the end of last year, a young girl named Charity, who had been living at the Rose of Charity Orphanage in Victoria Falls, was relocated to Bulawayo to live with her grandmother.  Shelley, a Community Volunteer, quickly took a shine to Charity who is deaf and dumb and raised a substantial amount of money for her to be sent to a local special school.  Unfortunately, when Charity arrived there she was turned away.  Although she is 13 years of age, with a mental age of only four, the school was unable to accept her as a pupil.  Charity found this hard to handle and ran away from her grandmother’s home.  Shelley was devastated, but never gave up hope that one day she would be found.

Recently, on a return visit to Zimbabwe, Shelley received the exciting news from the Orphanage that Charity had been spotted back in Victoria Falls.  Plans are now underway to locate Charity’s current whereabouts with the aim of using Shelley’s original donation to fund a suitable school for her in the Falls area.  If this can be arranged by May, Charity can also benefit from the help of a team of eight Audiologists who are travelling to Victoria Falls to assist on our community projects.  Hopefully then, with Shelley’s support, Charity can enjoy a happier future.
