On the morning of the 28th our research team found the pride minus Nala, Narnia and AT1 moving along the boundary fence in Tree Tops near waterhole three. After a brief stop to drink the pride moved through Tree Tops on to route 66 where they met up with the three missing members of their family.
Together they ambled down route 66, with Milo ensuring that virtually every bush was marked with his scent along the way. The pride eventually settled in Serengeti East by waterhole two, which seems to have become a bit of a favourite spot recently, and eyed up some impala in the distance. Deciding that the hunt would just be too much of an effort, one by one the lions drifted off in to a deep sleep, with only Narnia and AT1 (below) remaining vigilant until the impala eventually moved off.
Unsurprisingly the sight that met our researcher in the afternoon compromised of 12 flat cats sprawled out under some shady trees, clearly indicating that the pride hadn’t moved during the hottest part of the day.
As the sun began to set Ashanti and Kenge rounded up their cubs for the obligatory evening bath time session. Heads, bellies and even inside the ears were given a good licking, much to the dislike of the squirming cubs who seemed to be more interested in playing than being clean.
Once bath time was over, AS5, now fully spruced up and ready for a night on the town, couldn’t wait to show his sleeping dad just how good he looked. The enthusiastic greeting from AS5 didn’t exactly seem like the wake up call Milo wanted, and after initially accepting his sons affections, Milo soon bared his teeth and sent him packing back to mom.
As darkness slowly began to fall over the release site Nala and Phyre sat together and enjoyed the view that was in front of them; the sun setting over their beautiful home.
