Hard work pays off for two determined boys
April 3 2013

Cathy was a recent volunteer at our Victoria Falls project.  She joined the team for just three weeks, but in that time was able to change the lives of two of the boys who are supported by the Rose of Charity Orphanage.

The first, a young orphan named Professor, lives with his uncle who also looks after five other children.  He is a smart boy who loves to read and is determined to make the most of his education.  Unfortunately Professor’s uncle struggles to pay the fees for him and the other children, so he does not know from one term to another if he will be able to continue to attend school.  Recognising his potential, Cathy has offered to sponsor Professor. His willingness to learn now means that Professor will be given the opportunity to reach his potential and work towards a brighter future.

Professor is related to the other young man who is now being supported by Cathy.  Seany has left school already, but still visits the orphanage to help look after the younger children.  Again, Cathy saw something special in him and so has offered her assistance.  Seany is a talented artist; able to sketch and paint detailed, well-executed works of art.  Cathy has offered to help him advertise his skills.  She has taken photographs of his artwork and has written a short biography about him.  They will now work together to try and generate orders for Seany, so that he can make a small income from what he loves doing best.  Seany is so grateful for this opportunity and cannot wait to start painting!

You could help to make a difference too as a Community Volunteer on one of our programs.
