MKs night encounter
June 8 2012

The MK`s of Moyo, Mara, Meeka and Kali killed again last night on the night encounter at Antelope Park. This time it was a male juvenile impala and it was killed very swiftly. The lions had only been out for fifteen minutes or so and made short work of the juvenile. We believe it to be a sick one we saw prior to the kill that was limping along without the herd.

Lions often seek out and kill those herd members which are sick and lame reducing the potential for a disease host population.  Without such regulation by predation a pathogen is more likely to spread through a population and significantly reduce its size.

The four stalked the impala with Mara and Moyo leading the chase and Moyo making the all important kill. They very much enjoyed the fast food of the bush and after all the loud squabbling over the carcass they were instantly friends again once the impala was consumed.
