The 2Ls make a stealthy kill
October 15 2012

Last night Lewa and Laili were out on a night encounter at Antelope Park. It was a cold and windy evening and the prey animals seemed no where to be found. The girls were playing and stalking each other to keep themselves amused, walking for about two hours without seeing anything. They came across a flock of birds at a dam and started stalking them. The birds heard them coming of course and took flight. After another fifteen minutes or so the lions started stalking again, but the observers could see no prey to cause this behaviour. But there, hiding in the grasses was a common duiker. Lewa was approaching from straight on whilst Laili flanked left. The duiker lay still and silent, but the lions could smell it. As Lewa moved closer the duiker bolted, straight into Laili. She was on to it in a flash and bought the small antelope down with ease. Lewa tried to join in with Laili but Laili became jealous and snarled, dragging the duiker away to finish on her own. Lewa did get some of the spoils after Laili had had her fill. The poor jackal that was lurking in the background however did not get a look in.
