It was a very exciting Monday morning on the 17th as the ALERT Education Centre welcomed its first pupils, from the Midlands Children’s Hope Centre, to begin their conservation education holiday club.
There will be six modules taught throughout the holiday club and the children began this week upon Module 1: Conservation. Our AEC teacher Staben Porovha, from the neighboring Mkoba district, started off the first lesson by asking pupils “what is conservation?”
The entire class showed fantastic enthusiasm whilst learning about the importance of conservation, what happens to animals and their habitats if we do not protect them, different conservation statuses and how we can conserve the animals and plants around us.
Each module has been given its own slogan to be recited during each lesson to remind pupils the importance of their teachings. On Monday the classroom shook as the pupils yelled in unison “EXTINCTION IS FOREVER!”
A variety of topics will be taught during the conservation module and children will be undertaking a variety of activities such as making elephant dung paper!
We look forward to hearing more from Africa’s liveliest classroom.
