Volunteers offer a helping hand
February 13 2013

Mkoba 1 Clinic is one of the larger clinics in the Gweru area, with a catchment area of just over 49000 (2002 census).  Services provided by the clinic include: clinics for Opportunistic Infections (HIV and TB), an outpatients department for adults and children, extended program immunisation for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years of age, family planning, home visits, antenatal and post natal care, prevention of mother to child transmission for HIV affected mothers, and voluntary counseling and HIV testing.

At the end of 2012, Antelope Park established a relationship with the Clinic and in January, volunteers commenced visiting to assist nursing staff with observations, general nursing and midwifery duties, education initiatives, and supporting with non-nursing duties such as cleaning, bed making, and medication packaging.

The Sister in Charge and nursing staff at the Clinic are very welcoming and engage with the volunteers, appreciating the valuable assistance they provide.
