The resources available to schools are extremely limited, lessening the effectiveness of the education that can be provided to the children that attend. By agreeing to sponsor these schools close to our project sites you will greatly improve the education, and therefore their future prospects. Your donations will be used to:
- ensure that buildings are a safe, nurturing environment within which to live and learn,
- build new facilities to enhance the school's ability to meet the needs of its catchment,
- provide resources, such as teaching materials, to enhance the effectiveness of lessons,
- fund ALERT Education Centre activities at these schools, such as courses in English literacy, basic life skills and conservation education.
In return you will be provided a log-in to our online system to access updates written by our project team, the teachers, and from the children themselves, telling you of their lives and achievements.
Here are some details of the organizations we are currently supporting. More locations will be added as our funding increases. Scroll down for details of how to support these projects.
Mkoba 4 Primary School – Gweru, Zimbabwe is a Government run school providing education for approximately 2200 students. The school has 62 qualified teachers, and 45 student teachers. Due to the high number of students, there is a critical shortage of classrooms and resources such as textbooks and teaching aids. To deal with the large number of students the school authorities introduced “hot seating” where each student attends either a morning or afternoon class, which negatively impacts on student / teacher interaction. The school is in need for additional classrooms and resources. For more details of how ALERT is working to support this school, click here.
Monde Primary School – Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe Many of the 300 students who attend Monde Primary School are orphans living with members of their extended families who struggle to pay the school fees. Your sponsorship can make a real difference to these needy children by helping to fund their on-going education. It will also allow the school to upgrade its current facilities and purchase essential resources, such as text books. For more details of how ALERT is working to support this school, click here.
Maunga Primary School – Livingstone, Zambia is located in the rural Maunga community comprising of 8 villages and a population of nearly 2000. Family income levels in this area are low, and so many children are growing up surrounded by extreme poverty in very difficult circumstances. Maunga Primary School is the only school (other than preschools) in the area, and needless to say is stretched beyond its means to cater for such a large catchment area. Nearly 200 children are taught at this school by 6 teachers. For more details of how ALERT is working to support this school, click here.
