Supporting Anti-poaching

Since 2013, ALERT has been involved in supporting anti-poaching efforts. In 2013-2015, ALERT’s efforts in anti-poaching activities were undertaken alongside the Wildlife Authorities in the parks we have worked in, as well as providing funding for both Victoria Falls and Bumi Hills anti-poaching units, with USD $13,228 provided in 2014 (USD $11,852 in 2013) for operational costs.

From 2010-2017, ALERT conducted regular anti-poaching patrols to remove snares set by poachers within the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park in Livingstone Zambia.  All patrols are undertaken in conjunction with the Department of National Parks & Wildlife Department staff. In 2017, 44 snare sweeps were undertaken, for a total of 821man/hours.  308 snares were removed from the Park in 2017. For the 8-year commitment to this initiative, a total of 2643 snares had been removed from the Park during this time.
